Google now answers "how much does a bathroom remodel cost" before anyone clicks. Make sure it is quoting you
Google's AI answers now sit above the map pack for remodel cost questions and quote whichever local site states a price plainly. The one-hour fix for remodelers.
Search "how much does a bathroom remodel cost in [your town]" on your phone. In most markets the first thing on the screen is no longer the map pack or an ad. It is a paragraph written by Google's AI, with a price range, a few sentences about what drives the cost, and two or three links it pulled the numbers from. The map pack is below it. The homeowner who reads that paragraph and taps a link is the warmest lead on the internet, and the links are chosen by one thing: which pages said a number out loud.
What changed
Google has been expanding its AI answers across more searches through 2025 and 2026, including local cost questions. The important behavior for a remodeler: the answer prefers a sentence it can quote, and it attributes the sentence to the page it came from. "A tub-to-shower conversion in Fort Collins typically costs $9,500 to $16,000" is quotable. "Contact us for a free estimate" is not.
That is a change in who wins. For years the cost question went to the national home-improvement sites and their generic national averages. Now a local site with a real range for a real town is competitive for the same question, and most remodelers have not written one.
The one-hour fix
Open each of your project pages and put two sentences at the top, above the photos, that state the project, the towns, the timeline and the price range:
"We convert bathtubs to tiled walk-in showers in Fort Collins, Loveland and Windsor. Most conversions take 8 to 12 working days and cost $9,500 to $16,000 depending on tile and glass."
Then add an H2 that asks the cost question in the homeowner's words and answers it in under 80 words with the number:
"How much does a bathroom remodel cost in Fort Collins? A full bathroom remodel in the Fort Collins area runs $18,000 to $35,000 in 2026. Tile selection, moving plumbing and glass are the biggest variables. Tub-to-shower conversions run $9,500 to $16,000."
Do it for each project type: full remodel, conversion, walk-in and accessibility, half bath. Use your own ranges. Forty minutes for four pages.
Then open the Google Business Profile, go to Services, and add the starting price to each one. The profile is quoted as often as the website.
Why owners resist this and why they are wrong
The objection is always "I do not want to give a price before I see the bathroom." You are not giving a price. You are giving a range, and the range is doing work for you: it sends the $4,000 shopper elsewhere and tells the $15,000 buyer she is in the right place. The pricing guide goes through the case in detail.
The other objection is "my competitors will see it." They can already see it. Their estimators lose to you on every job where the homeowner got both numbers, and the AI answer is now handing out your range without the homeowner even clicking.
The compounding part
The same two-sentence openers that get quoted in Google's AI answer are what ChatGPT and Perplexity pull when someone asks "who does good tub-to-shower conversions near [town]". The AI search guide covers the full set of changes, but the price sentences are the biggest single step and they take an hour.
Across the 8,145 bathroom remodeling companies in our benchmark data, 20.4% have no website at all, and in our experience only a small minority of the rest state a price. In most towns, the first remodeler to write the sentence is the one that gets quoted for a long time.
How to check whether it worked
Two weeks after the change, search the cost question for each of your towns on a phone, logged out, and screenshot the AI answer. Repeat monthly. Note which site is cited. When yours appears, that page's form submissions will show it; these visitors already know your range and are calling to schedule, not to ask what it costs.
